Whether you love it or it leaves you cold, Chrysler's PT Cruiser is an unmitigated hit. People are still standing in line to buy this little car (van? mini-SUV? whatever...), even a year and a half after its introduction. And while some love it just the way it is, most of the people we've met see it as a project car in the making. Its neo/retro styling almost screams, "Lower me! Paint me! Turn me into a woodie!"

Now, appearance doo-dads are fine, but what if you';re looking for something more substantial? Although the PT's performance is adequate enough for, well, cruising, what if the 150 horses coming from its 2.4-liter four-banger just aren't good enough? (As if we had to ask.) Well, have we got some good news for you. There's a whole raft of companies out there developing parts for the PT. And we mean honest-to-goodness speed parts. Not just air cleaners and mufflers, though there's a bunch of those, but turbochargers, superchargers, headers, dual-exhaust kits, even engine swaps. (Can you say "Hemi"?!) You won't believe some of the stuff that's going on out there. We didn't. But we're glad to see it, because hot rodders aren't content to just cruise in a PT.
