Collapsing Coils: Coil springs are available in a multitude of wire diameters, lengths, and rates. When lowering a car, it’s easy to collapse the coil with a torch. It’s also easy to "shorten" the coil with a torch. Don’t do it. You’re messing with the structural integrity of the spring. Instead, buy the right spring for the application. Not only are coil springs dirt cheap, you’ll find that a spring that’s matched correctly to your application will ride and handle better than one that’s been modified with your favorite gas ax.
