Power Tour 2002 wrapped up with a bang, cruising through Summit Racing in Tallmadge, Ohio, for a huge barbecue before joining the Jim Pace GM Parts Warehouse 24th Annual CD93.3 Hot Rod Super Nationals in Canfield. Longtime readers will remember that the Super Nationals was started by HOT ROD magazine; it's now run by The Promotions Company, which also handled operations of this year's Power Tour. The Super Nationals and HOT ROD came back together for this year's event in preparation for next year's huge 25th anniversary blowout. While the event is held at the Canfield Fairgrounds, it's the city of Youngstown, Ohio, that really works with the hot rodders to make the Super Nationals happen. The Power Tour hit town on Thursday night for the Welcome Party hosted by Summit, then hung out Friday for the Long Haul awards and photo, the giveaway of the Chevy Monte Carlo SS and two GM Performance Parts crate engines, then a Saturday and Sunday good ol' fashioned Midwest car show.
Like the end of every Power Tour, it was a time filled with a feeling of accomplishment. Every Tour participant comes away with newfound friends, a greater appreciation for the spirit of hot rodding, and a resolve to do it again next year.
