I looked around and realized that no one made a carburetor specifically for these guys who want big power on pump gas, or the racers who need a low-cost racing carburetor without all the stuff they don't know how to tune anyway. So I took out the features they didn't need, tuned the booster for better response on lower-compression engines, and priced it better than anything you can buy from my competition." Basically, that's what Barry Grant told us about his latest carb line, the Mighty Demons.

The reign of Demons begins with the entry-level Road Demon, then steps up in cost and features to the Speed Demon, the Mighty Demon, the Race Demon, the removable-sleeve Race Demon, then the King Demon. Basically, the new Mighty Demon carbs are Race Demons without the adjustable emulsion circuits and the replaceable booster legs. However, they have tunability features not found in the Speed Demons, such as tunable high-speed air bleeds and idle restrictors. Therefore, the Mighty Demon will give Race Demon performance and driveability adjustments without the price or last-micron dyno tuning of a full-on Race Demon. The Mighty Demon has all the regular Demon features (billet base plate and metering blocks, Concentra-Cast venturi, float-bowl sights), but does not come with a choke or choke horn. All Mighty Demons have mechanical secondaries and they come in sizes of 650-, 750-, 825-, and 850-cfm, plus an 850-cfm annular-discharge model.

To give you an idea of pricing, Barry shared with us a sneak peak of the racer net listings for 650-cfm carbs: Race Demons are $714, Mighty Demons are $524, and Speed Demons are $463. Prices are often cheaper via mail-order, but you can see that the Mighty is closer in price to the Speed Demon than you'd think.

However, price is not the only reason to get one. Barry sees this as a carb for today's big-inch street engines that run cams in the 240-at-0.050-tappet-lift range and with big cylinder heads and intakes, but with compression around 9.5:1 to 11.0:1 on pump gas. They are equally capable on higher-compression race engines, but the Mighty Demons are said to help off-idle response on lower-vacuum pump-gas engines.
