In case you're not familiar with Drag Week(TM), here's the gist. Designed to determine the fastest, legitimate, streetable hot rod in thecountry, Drag Week(TM) is a five-day journey that requires each car to makea quarter-mile pass on four dragstrips in five days and drive to eachtrack with no support vehicles whatsoever. That means no trailers, nobuddies following in trucks loaded with tools or spare parts, and nothing else that could be construed as support. Each vehicle may, however, pull a small trailer filled with that kind of stuff. Theoverall winner is the vehicle that averages the lowest e.t. for all fivedays and becomes HOT ROD's '08 Fastest Street Car in America. DennyTerzich and Steve Roth have held that title for the past year with their7-second '67 Camaro, and we hear guys are building some wicked machineryto knock them off the throne.

Don't fear if you don't have a 7-second car, for there are 10 classes tomake sure it's a fun playground for any type of car or truck. In fact, those who have the most fun are usually in the Daily Driver class, where11- and 12-second cars are the norm. And that's the biggest appeal ofHOT ROD Drag Week(TM)--the fun and friendships that come out of it. Think of it as Power Tour(R) with a more hard-core slant.

The rules this year are exactly the same as in 2007 with oneexception--the mandatory windshield wiper rule has been waived.Otherwise, it's the same, meaning every car has to have the fullassortment of street-legal equipment (lights, turn signals, and so on)and current license, registration, and insurance. Our route this year takes us down south into the heart of lower Alabama. We will be starting and stopping at my favorite track in the country,Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and this year we'll starton a Monday and end on a Saturday. We've got some good stuff planned forSaturday, and the crowd should be huge to watch the final day of DragWeek(TM). It's really going to be the best one yet, and you should get yourhot rod tuned up and take vacation time to join us. You won't bedisappointed.
